Grantee Eligibility
Eligibility Requirements
In accordance with the CVSF by-laws, Colorado Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) and other veterans-related nonprofit and governmental organizations are eligible to receive grants or donations to support the needs of Colorado's veterans and their families. Eligible VSOs include the Disabled American Veterans, All Veterans Honor Guard, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, and others.
The CVSF may grant funds to eligible entities based on known Colorado veterans' needs, based on a grant application received or known needs identified by the foundation without the submission of a formal grant application, and consideration of the total amount of all grant requests received.

Information to be Submitted:
Letters of inquiry and grant applications are accepted year-round. However, the number of grant requests accepted in a given year may be limited based on the number of grant applications received, the dollar value of those grant applications, and the ability of the CVSF to solicit funds to fulfill approved grant requests.
1. Applicants for a CVSF grant must first submit a letter of inquiry to the foundation to include the following information:
- Name and address of the organization.
- Description of the organization to include its nonprofit status and its mission
- Statement of how the requested grant aligns with the CVSF's mission.
- Explanation of the purpose of the grant request and how the granted funds would be used to assist Colorado veterans and their families.
- Grant amount requested.

The CVSF will contact the applicant if additional information is required to enable proper consideration of the applicant's eligibility for a potential grant.
2. If and when the CVSF agrees to support the applicant's grant request, the applicant may be requested to submit the Colorado Common Grant Application: Colorado_Common_Grant_Application_Revised_06-2010.docx (live.com)
3. The CVSF will review the received application and determine whether the grant request will be accepted normally within 30 calendar days of the receipt of the grant request unless additional time is needed by the CVSF to research complex grant requests.
4. After approval of an individual grant request, the CVSF will solicit, collect, or otherwise obtain grant funding. The time frame for conducting that funding effort will vary and can require several months to obtain adequate funds to fulfill an approved grant request. The applicant will be kept apprised of the status of funding of their grant request.
