Board members are veterans or a veteran's family member who are members of veterans service organizations and are knowledgeable about veterans' programs and activities supporting the needs of Colorado's veterans. The Board may also utilize consultants with experience in operating a nonprofit foundation, financial accounting, and regulatory oversight to assist the Board in managing the Colorado Veterans Service Foundation in compliance with Colorado State and Federal laws and regulations while serving in the best interests of Colorado's veterans and their families. Board members execute annual Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Disclosure Statements.

The Colorado Veterans Service Foundation (CVSF) was established as a Colorado Nonprofit Corporation in 2022 and maintains a registration in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State. The CVSF is certified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit charity to perpetuate the charitable mission of Colorado veterans service organizations and other nonprofit and governmental organizations operating programs and activities supporting Colorado's veterans.
The CVSF was established and functions under the authority of Colorado Revised Statutes Title 7, the Colorado Revised Nonprofit Act, Colorado laws, and IRS regulations.
The Board of Directors is comprised of individuals dedicated to the noble cause of assisting Colorado's veterans and their families. The Board of Directors is confident that the CVSF will accomplish its mission with the support of others who share an interest and belief in our cause of helping to improve the lives of Colorado's veterans.

The mission of the CVSF is to solicit and otherwise obtain funds which in turn are distributed through grants or donations to charitable nonprofit organizations and governmental entities to support programs and activities benefiting Colorado's veterans and their families.
Programs, activities, and entities supported include the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Eastern Colorado Healthcare System, Colorado State Veterans Living Centers, Colorado veterans service organizations (VSOs) including Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, All Veterans Honor Guard, Vietnam Veterans of America, and other VSOs assisting Colorado's veterans and their families. CVSF support is provided by donating/granting funds to other entities to assist Colorado's veterans.
Colorado State and National veterans' benefits and programs offer considerable assistance to veterans and their families. However, due to funding limitations and bureaucratic restrictions, some needs of Colorado's veterans are not fulfilled by governmental programs. That is where VSOs and the CVSF assist by "filling the void" not covered by state and national programs to help improve the lives of veterans and their families.
The CVSF continually communicates with the Colorado veteran community to expand our ability to satisfy the many unfulfilled needs of Colorado veterans.
